Sammy

We have been spending a lot of time discussing Samuel de Champlain, trying to figure out if we agree with him being called the 'Father' of New France. We also talked about using multiple historical sources to get our information. Your task for the weekend is to find an online source for information on Samuel de Champlain that your classmates can use for their research.
Sounds easy enough...right??? Well...there's a catch. You CANNOT repeat a site that someone else had already posted, so that means HURRY UP!!! and post fast. Good luck:)

Why we celebrate Terry.

Our annual Terry Fox walk is coming up this week. We all look forward to the day, a walk outside, finding out who 'won' the highest donation amount, and of course the school dance. But, there is something much more meaningful behind this 'fun day, it's the reason we have a full day dedicated to this worthy cause.

We have all been affected by cancer. It's awful, it's sad, it's terrifying. But there is something we can do to help, we can raise money to help find a cure, and at HMC we do a great job at it!

In honour of our upcoming fundraiser I would like everyone to post WHY you think Terry Fox is a Canadian Hero, and WHY you  are walking on Friday (or who you are walking for in memory of).

UPDATED: Fun with BitStrips

Here's an easy one for you this weekend as I know you are busy working on other assignments. We will be using the program BITSTRIPS in a few weeks to demonstrate our understanding of every day life in New France. What I'd like you to do is have some fun exploring the program:)

NEW INFORMATION:
Now that you have had an opportunity to go and practice with bitstrips on your own I would like you to go to our CLASS bitstrips account and log in as yourself. You may create  your password and create an avatar for yourself.

You do not need to post a comment to this post as I will be able to check to see if you have completed this by logging into Bitstrips. Have fun :)

Student anonymity

To maintain student anonymity you have two choices:

1. Write TWO comments, one anonymous, and an identical one with your name. I will post the anonymous one. Remember, even if you are logged in with your gmail account just go to the drop down menu and choose ANONYMOUS.

2. Post with your initials only, also choosing ANONYMOUS from drop down menu.

Please ask your parents which they would prefer you use:)

Effective classroom presentations

We have been discussing upcoming current events presentations and I feel you are all a much better resource than I am when it comes to the best and latest technology, apps, programs etc. available to present information to the class.

That being said, here is your challenge...if you choose to accept it...actually, you have no choice;)

Describe a media platform that can be used to present your current events assignment to the class. You can share this via the 'comment' section. Please send TWO identical comments, at the same time, one with your name and one anonymous. Both are sent to me before the are published. I will record that you have submitted your response but will only publish the anonymous comment.

Here are the rules:

  • You cannot suggest a program that has already been suggested
  • Provide a link to the website related to the program you are suggesting
  • provide a brief example of how it works, don't just share the website

GOOD LUCK :)

Welcome to grade 7!

Welcome to Grade 7!

Check back on Thursday, which I call "Techie Thursdays"! That's when I will post new items that I expect you to check out and comment on. I think this will be a great way to share ideas and learn from each other.

If you ever have an idea for a post you would like to share please share it with me in class and I would be more than happy to give you control of the blog for the week. Remember, this is a place for all of us:)

Let's start with introducing ourselves, please leave a comment with your name, class number, and one fun thing you did over the summer.

Can't wait to get to know everyone.
