One Piece Volume 46

On this amazing adventure, a boy named Luffy and his crew of seven people sailed into a mysterious place where they saw many weird things. One day while they were sailing peacefully in the Grand Line, they surprisingly found a barrel floating on the water and it was marked "Treasure". Excitingly they opened it with a hope that they would find something valuable inside, but unexpectedly a signal flare flew up. Moments later they realized that they were surrounded by thick fog and could hardly see anything except a giant torn down galleon.
As the ghost ship passed by them, they heard a singing and it came from a singing skeleton on the ship. Out of shock and excitement, they all shrieked. After they all calmed down, three of them decided to go over to the ghost ship and investigate it. The moment they got onto the ship, the skeleton welcomed them kindly. They invited the skeleton to come over to their ship for dinner. There they learned the skeleton's name was Brook, he did not have a shadow and he was a skeleton with  a mysterious power. He claimed that someone stole his shadow and he was determined to get it back. Suddenly they saw the ship getting swallowed by something and not far away was a gloomy island. Everyone offered to help Brook but he refused. He suddenly jumped off the boat and ran away towards the island. Curiously, the crew split into two groups and carried out an exploration of the island. During their exploration, they saw lots of phenomenon like dangerous zombies, ghosts, an invisible man and more. Would they be able to discover the truth behind this dangerous island and would they come out alive?
My favorite part of the book is when they first  got on the island and saw all the weird things. Their reactions to the zombies and ghosts were interesting. I can relate how the crew feels since sometimes weird things happen to me too and no one tells me what is going on. I would rate this book five out of five stars because I like the suspense and humour the story has that makes me curious and it makes me want to read the next book.

Student Book Review - Dork Diaries, Tales from the not so glam tv stars

Dork Diaries: Tales from Not-So-Glam TV Stars
By: Rachel Renée Russell
Are you a person that loves writing in a diary? Or, do you dream of being on TV? Well then you have found your consummate (ideal) book that you will read over and over again. I love this book because it is amusing. This book is about a girl named Nikki, who is a dork. It is about her friends who have been chosen to have their own TV show because of their hit song. Nikki the protagonist is multitasking; participating in the show, karate lessons, voice lessons, dance practice, handling little sister Brianna’s wacky antics and hanging out with her friends.  Nikki cannot help out her crush, Brandon. Nikki reminds me of myself because I love writing in my diary and one day I want to be on TV with my friends and family. My favorite part in the book is when Nikki, Chole, and Zoey all get dressed up by a famous fashion designer as the Dancing Divas and then they get in trouble. This book is different because in this book Nikki is not getting bullied by Mackenzie.

I gave this rating because it had a wonderful story, with suspense, and comedy.

Student Book Review - Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul
By. Jeff Kinney

The book is called Diary of a Wimpy: The Long Haul. The book is very awesome, great, and funny. This book about a boy named Greg Heffley and he been getting in all sorts of trouble by his two brothers and his mom and dad.

Greg was just sitting down playing video games and no one was disturbing him until his mom came and said, “Where going on a road trip”. The family was all ready to go but there were too many things that cannot fit in in the van so they separated into two piles so half of the piles went away. Before they went, they had a Flat Stanley paper cut out so his friend, Rowley sent to his relatives and he got pictures back, he got all cool stuff and went Greg sent his he got nothing and Greg also sent it to his mom and during the trip his mom took pictures at not so good time like beside a tree, beside a cow farm, and a no U-turn sign. Also before the trip, his Rodrick said he would other him the back seat and he accepted but it was not a very good seat. During the trip him mom was in front so she put educational videos that they family does not like. The videos that they watch is Spanish videos. At the trip, they were all hungry so they said to pull over so they can eat fast food but her mom said it is not real food so they had to eat a “mommy meal”. They were all board so they played games but Greg thought the games actually fun but it ended after Rodrick had to make a phone call to his neighbor. Later Manny fell asleep so they could not talk. Manny lost his favorite pacifier so dad bought him a new one that looks like a discussing teeth. They went to lots of places and things to see and you do not know what they can get in this time.

My favorite part of the book was when his mom took pictures of Flat Stanley in weird places. This book is to be compared to Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days because it is both in the summer and there family drives them crazy.  I will rate this book 5/5 because it is funny great and AWESOME.

Student Book Review - The Savages

THE SAVAGESThe Savages – Book Review                                                                                                    Author: Matt Whyman
The Savages look just like your average European family. Right? Well, sorry to break it to you, but...they’re not. They are cannibals ( They prefer to call themselves “ Evolved eaters” but that doesn’t change the fact that they are cannibals) . The family that we’re talking about just isn’t normal.

In this brilliantly plotted piece of literature (Sasha Savage is worried about introducing her boyfriend, Jack Greenway to her parents. You see, Jack is a vegetarian, something that her father sees as a disgrace. Sasha’s younger brother Ivan, lets  her little secret slip one night while the family was gathered around the dinner table. While Titus ( Sasha’s father ) worries about what has gotten into his daughter, Sasha is going even further and is convinced by her boyfriend to give vegetarianism a try. Angelica Savage ( Sasha’s mother ) is trying to be supportive, but is unsure what will happen when Titus and Ivan uncover the real reason why Sasha is excusing herself from dinnertime so unusually early, as they are not so understanding when it comes to the topic of food. Outside the Savage household, a private investigator titled as Vernon English, is dubious about why the Savages talk about food so much so he decides to investigate. Things start to fall apart quickly and the secret that the Savages have kept safe for so long is at risk of being exposed. Will they keep their secret protected, or will they spill it out and let the world find out. You would have to read the book to know that.

I didn’t really favor one part of the book over the other as it was enjoyable all the way. One thing I found particularly interesting after reading  the book, was that I found myself rooting for the Savages and not Vernon even if I knew that the Savages were bad people and were committing acts that were inhumane , all because of the way the book was written. When reading the book I got so indulged in it that I felt as if I was a part of the story and that whenever something happened, I would feel a certain emotion in me. Unfortunately, this book does not have a movie version  but if there were one ,I would be the first to go watch it.

On a scale of one to five I would rate this book a five because it had a great storyline full of dark comedy and always left me wondering what would happen next. The thing I found intriguing about this book was that the  author found a way to incorporate every bit of detail into the story. I would suggest this book to people aged 12-15 because it deals with some mature content not suitable for young readers.

Student Book Review - The Sleeper

The Sleeper

Have you ever been near aliens or were you a spy. Well in this book you will have to think unordinary to read. And if you like spies and aliens you’re in luck…
This books takes the ordinary to the next level. There is an orphanage, a very strange orphanage that has of course orphans but the only difference they are aliens. Don’t worry they are very harmless. JK they are here to take over the world and make it their own. Tom is an alien in the orphanage. One day the head of the orphanage says that there is a spy among them. The life of Tom turns upside down from a single car crash. Who can stop them? Read the book and find out!
I would think of this book as mysterious but not as scary as I thought. I would rate this book 3 out of 5 stars because it was a good story but maybe needed a little more detail in order to make it more interesting. One thing that I didn’t like about this book was that it ended when it should have started giving out the good parts. In other words it ended very suddenly. But there is other books in the series so you can read them too.

Student Book Review - Captain Underpants and the Tyrannical Retaliation of the Turbo Toilet

Captain Underpants and the Tyrannical Retaliation of the Turbo Toilet 2000By: Dav Piliky

This book was awesome! One of the best books I read. The main characters are Captain Underpants, George, and Harold. Right when people thought it was safe to flush, the Turbo Toilet 2000.

In book 2, Captain Underpants and the attack of the Talking Toilets, the Turbo Toilet 2000 was made. George and Harold made a robot and it beat up the Turbo Toilet 2000 and took it to the moon. In this book, a villain makes 2 robots that look like George and Harold and send them to school. The 2 of them kicked a softball, it goes to space and hits the good robot's head. The oil inside him spills into the Turbo Toilet 2000's mouth. That is when the Turbo Toilet 2000 comes alive and comes to Earth. He takes revenge on Captain Underpants, George, and Harold. In book 10, their pets, a hamster and pterodactyl, the 2 animals had 3 babies. It was a new species called hamsterdactyls. Close to the end of the book, Captain Underpants got swallowed by the Turbo Toilet 2000. But the hamsterdactyls picked up the Turbo Toilet 2000 and drop him and KABOOM!

Student Book Review - Doll Bones by Holly Black

Do you love adventures? Do you believe in magic? Then Holly Black’s Doll Bones is the book for you!
Zach, Poppy and Alice are friends who have known each other for ever. The three of them love coming up with awesome stories and imagining a magical world of adventure and heroism. Since they were young, they've been telling tales of pirates, mermaids, and a Great Queen, an antique bone china doll locked away in a glass cabinet. But the unthinkable happens when, without warning, Zach’s father throws away all of his action figures because according to him, at 12, Zach should no longer be playing make-believe.

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1357922357l/15944406.jpgZach is furious but also ashamed and confused at the same time. So instead of talking to his friends, he closes himself off altogether and stops playing the game. But then one night Poppy and Alice show up at his house saying that Poppy has been contacted by the ghost of The Queen who claims that her soul is trapped in the china doll which has been made from the bones of her murdered body. Who says she'll haunt them until they bury the doll in her proper grave.
Adventure goes on as Zach, Poppy and Alice run away from home and go on their-this time, real-Quest. Though he's uncertain whether the ghost story is real or a desperate act by Poppy to keep the game going and their friendship alive.
My favourite part of this book would have to be when Poppy found out that her little sister was sitting upright in bed one night saying that if the doll got out it would come after them. I liked this part of the story because it gave the feeling that the doll was alive.
I would rate this book a 5 out of 5. Doll Bones turned out to be not as creepy as I was hoping but more thoughtful than I was expecting.  I really loved this book because everything flowed smoothly from event to event and one of my favourite genres is mystery. Overall, a very good read.
