Student Book Review - "Poison Apple - At first bite"

Poison Apple- At First Bite
Novel written by Ruth Ames

Have you ever thought what life would be like if vampires existed? What if you just turned 12, and found out they really do exist and you’re one of them?! That would probably never happen to you, but still what if it did, what would be your reaction? That’s why I love this book, it’s full of suspense, mystery, and adventure. The story is about a 12-year old girl named Ashlee Lambert. After becoming a full-fledged vampire, life becomes harder for Ashlee. She has to act like her old self without giving her new dark-side away and worst of all she can’t seem to control her new supernatural powers. And being the most popular girl in school doesn’t help that fact, because now people are starting to ask questions and slowly she’s going down from being the POP. Queen of her school to well, just popular. But after moving from New York to Los Angeles, she’s excited to make a fresh new start. She hopes to be the popular girl she once was, but this time, she’s going to be the ‘cool new girl from New York City’.  But Ashlee never counted on a clique of popular mean girls or awful sunburns. Keeping her huge secret suddenly became harder than ever. And then things take a turn for her, when she switches personalities with her brother. She’s the less popular one while her brother is living the high popularity life with his new friends. And the worst part comes when something-or-someone, starts attacking people at her school, and Ashlee realizes she’s not the only vampire in town. Now it’s up to Ashlee to figure out who’s behind the attacks, all the while making friends with the school’s clique of popular girls. It is a blood-winding story that is going to keep you on the edge of your seat, and is going to add some excitement and flavor into your lifestyle. My favorite part of the book is when the first attack of the ‘black creature’ happens, because that’s when the story really starts. First, it’s all about her personal life, and it’s all just some typical teenager worries with some supernatural setbacks for her, when, BOOM! , something happens that changes everything and Ashlee realizes that there’s danger around the corner. This scene builds a lot of suspense and you start thinking of who could be behind these attacks, and it’s basically introducing the plot and, all the other scenes are building up on this one. I can relate to Ashlee’s thoughts at this moment because when most of the time when I’m reading mystery novels, my mind starts to wander off and piece together the evidence to find the culprit. I start making connections and brainstorming ideas while I’m reading, and she was basically making connections and brainstorming ideas throughout the whole incident. Ashlee reminds me a little about myself because of the way she thinks, excluding the parts where she makes bad choices about choosing her friends in the beginning. But later she starts making better choices about her friends. I can also relate to Sasha, because she was being a good friend to Ashlee but Ashlee kept denying her. She tried to make Ashlee feel welcome but Ashlee ignored her. I would also try to make someone new feel welcomed, and I too, try to be a good friend to my friends, just like Sasha.Overall, I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it’s the best book I’ve read in the Poison Apple series so far. I personally love this book because it has 2 of my all-time favorite genres which are mystery and adventure. And the story flowed smoothly and made sense, and the author put in the right amount of detail to describe the characters and the settings. And the plot was also very interesting and it grabbed the reader’s attention with all the suspense. I recommend you all to read this fang-tastic book, because I’m sure you’ll like it just as much as I did. Thank you for reading!
