Student Book Review : B Magical - The Runaway Spell

B Magical-The Runaway Spell     By: Lexi Connor
Have you ever been a witch, doing spells? Probably not, but this is exactly the case with our beginner witch in this fantastic M-A-G-I-C-A-L book. All of her spells rely on her spelling of the words, even if one letter gets mixed up that’s it, anything can happen, SERIOUSLY anything.
In this fiction book we meet our protagonist Beatrix (also called “B” by her friends.)When B’s best friend, George, gets to know about the magical powers she has about which no one should know ,he turns out to be very stubborn about them. Soon George has a soccer match later in that week and he wants Beatrix to make him play like his favorite soccer player, La Zebra Italiana. But when Beatrix tries to, something gets messed up, George doesn’t look like himself anymore or his favorite soccer player he looks like ………..half-human, half-zebra! It will take a hint of magic to solve this spell!
My favorite part of the book was when B turns George into half-human and half-zebra, because at this point of the story it kind of built some suspense. I was tempted to turn the page to know what’s going to happen next. I can relate to Beatrix because sometimes when I mess up one tiny thing, everything gets messed up!
Now comes my rating, so I would rate this book 4 out of 5.The reason I gave that rating is because although this book flowed very smoothly from event-to-event, I would’ve liked some more detail in the climax. This book did have some twists and turns, which was very exciting. Also this book was a great page-turner, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes some bumps along the way. I loved this book, and I hope you will too! Have fun reading!

Student Book Review - Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Kid Hard Luck

Title: Diary of the Wimpy Kid Hard Luck
Author: Jeff Kinney

I think Diary of the Wimpy Kid Hard Luck was an amazing book because while you are reading it, some parts are really funny and you would enjoy it. In my opinion, the message in this book is you should have more than one friend. What the story is about is, Greg Heffley has been on a losing streak for the past few months and he doesn’t like that. Furthermore, his best friend Rowley has ditched him. Most part of the book is, Greg finding new friends in middle school but he is having a tough time making new friends. My favorite part in the book is when Greg becomes friends with Rowley again because they had a good friendship until it was broken and now they can be best friends again. No movie has been related to this book yet. This book is one of the most interesting books out of the series to me because I was into the book and I was enjoying it a lot from the other books. This book reminds when my good friend ditched me and I tried finding new friends but then at the end I became best friends with her again.

Student Book Review - "Dragon Ball"

Dragonball#7,8,9
By:Akira Toriyama

Imagine a 12 year old boy fights the most dangerous and evil millitary in the world by himself, well that's what Goku does in this awesome action packed book! This book is about Goku a 12 year old boy who has to fight the toughest millitary in the world because he has to get the dragonballs that magic to grant anyone a wish. If Goku can obtain them what will he wish for?

My favourite part of this book is when Goku fights the Red Ribbon army (millitary) because I didn't really expect to see him fight them and the fight was really intense.I would give this book a 5 out of 5 because this book was interesting in a way,and it was more creative than any other book in the series.

Student Book Review - "Poison Apple - At first bite"

Poison Apple- At First Bite
Novel written by Ruth Ames

Have you ever thought what life would be like if vampires existed? What if you just turned 12, and found out they really do exist and you’re one of them?! That would probably never happen to you, but still what if it did, what would be your reaction? That’s why I love this book, it’s full of suspense, mystery, and adventure. The story is about a 12-year old girl named Ashlee Lambert. After becoming a full-fledged vampire, life becomes harder for Ashlee. She has to act like her old self without giving her new dark-side away and worst of all she can’t seem to control her new supernatural powers. And being the most popular girl in school doesn’t help that fact, because now people are starting to ask questions and slowly she’s going down from being the POP. Queen of her school to well, just popular. But after moving from New York to Los Angeles, she’s excited to make a fresh new start. She hopes to be the popular girl she once was, but this time, she’s going to be the ‘cool new girl from New York City’.  But Ashlee never counted on a clique of popular mean girls or awful sunburns. Keeping her huge secret suddenly became harder than ever. And then things take a turn for her, when she switches personalities with her brother. She’s the less popular one while her brother is living the high popularity life with his new friends. And the worst part comes when something-or-someone, starts attacking people at her school, and Ashlee realizes she’s not the only vampire in town. Now it’s up to Ashlee to figure out who’s behind the attacks, all the while making friends with the school’s clique of popular girls. It is a blood-winding story that is going to keep you on the edge of your seat, and is going to add some excitement and flavor into your lifestyle. My favorite part of the book is when the first attack of the ‘black creature’ happens, because that’s when the story really starts. First, it’s all about her personal life, and it’s all just some typical teenager worries with some supernatural setbacks for her, when, BOOM! , something happens that changes everything and Ashlee realizes that there’s danger around the corner. This scene builds a lot of suspense and you start thinking of who could be behind these attacks, and it’s basically introducing the plot and, all the other scenes are building up on this one. I can relate to Ashlee’s thoughts at this moment because when most of the time when I’m reading mystery novels, my mind starts to wander off and piece together the evidence to find the culprit. I start making connections and brainstorming ideas while I’m reading, and she was basically making connections and brainstorming ideas throughout the whole incident. Ashlee reminds me a little about myself because of the way she thinks, excluding the parts where she makes bad choices about choosing her friends in the beginning. But later she starts making better choices about her friends. I can also relate to Sasha, because she was being a good friend to Ashlee but Ashlee kept denying her. She tried to make Ashlee feel welcome but Ashlee ignored her. I would also try to make someone new feel welcomed, and I too, try to be a good friend to my friends, just like Sasha.Overall, I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it’s the best book I’ve read in the Poison Apple series so far. I personally love this book because it has 2 of my all-time favorite genres which are mystery and adventure. And the story flowed smoothly and made sense, and the author put in the right amount of detail to describe the characters and the settings. And the plot was also very interesting and it grabbed the reader’s attention with all the suspense. I recommend you all to read this fang-tastic book, because I’m sure you’ll like it just as much as I did. Thank you for reading!

Student Book Review - Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Diary of a wimpy kid the last straw                                                                                                                     This book is a great book for all ages but it can relate to kids especially in middle school. This book is about a boy named Greg who is a wimpy kid. His dad wants him to man up so he puts Greg in sports and other things Greg cannot handle. If Greg does not change himself to what his dad wants him to be things will get even worse. My favorite part of the story is when his brother Manny gets a blanket that does not belong to him and throws it at a tree Greg thinks this is his chance to show his dad what he has got. Greg climbs up the tree and all of a sudden his pants fall off and his neighbors recorded the whole thing! I would rate this book 5 star out of 5 because it is always interesting and can keep you reading until the book is finished. The best part is it is this book is hilarious!

BULLYING in the real world

One of the major themes in our upcoming novel study is BULLYING and ACCEPTANCE. After the great discussion we had this week about bullying, I realized that not everyone sees this as a major problem at our school, or in the world. So I wanted to share with you some stories of bullying across Canada, stories that were serious enough to make the news.

Please click on at least TWO of the following links, and in the comment section please share your feelings about the story.

Student Book Review - "I Survived" by Lauren Trashis

BOOK REVIEW
"I SURVIVED" BY: LAUREN TRASHIS
Have you ever got into a big disaster, something like a TSUNAMI ? Yes, you heard right, if I liked this book I think you would love it too.  “I Survived” is written by Lauren Tarshis and is a story of a boy and his family who go through a natural disaster.
http://www.laurentarshis.com/sites/default/files/styles/book_cover/public/cover_art/tsunami_md.jpg?itok=jKjxhvPh
After four months after Ben’s father’s death Ben goes to his hometown with his brother and mom which is in Japan in an old village where they live with their uncle (Ojisan). One morning Ben wakes up and there is a massive horrifying earthquake and tsunami. What will happen next, will Ben and his family survive?
This reminds me of a movie I watched, it was a tsunami too and there was a family that got into some trouble. This also reminds me of a uncle who told me a story similar to this book. I would rate this 5 out 5 because it is a great book so many adventures and ups and downs you never know what is going to happen next there is are so many thrills!

Student Book Review - "The Crossroads"

The Crossroads
By: Chris Grabenstien
Illustrated by Tim Boowop.

Do you like a exciting mysteries with ghosts with some weirdo kid who can see them, if so this book is the best of the best for you. This book is about a ordinary boy with problems, like a dead mother and new mother to replace his old mother who claims to hate her son the main character called Zack Jeggings. What he does not know his whole life is about to change. At his new home right in his backyard is the place where an accident happened. There was a murderer and now ghosts are back to take revenge. Now the question is who will succeed, Zach or the ghost???

This story has 3 other books that I know of, they're called The Hanging Hill, The Smoky Corridor , and The Black Heart Crypt. I read the first 2 books that I named but I have yet to read The Black Heart Crypt. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 because once I started reading it I was hooked to it and once I finished I needed more. Also this book contains 2 genres that I absolutely adore, supernatural and mystery .

Student book review - "The Book of Bad Things"

The Book Of Bad Things. This book is a good book I read it and I liked it. The author of this book is Dan Poblocki, who also wrote the books The Stone Child, The Nightmares, The Mysterious Four series, The Ghost Of Graylock and The Haunting Of Gabriel Ashe.
This book is about a girl named Cassidy Bean who is on the bus to go somewhere……. Her view was good but then it started to get worse and worse until she arrived to a place and she had to go to a parking lot to meet Mrs.Tremont and Joey so that they can show her the path to go to her house. She spent two summers in there. They believe that there are demons in the house. The people went in and then came out something was following them, it was a beast. WILL THE PEOPLE TRY TO SOLVE THE CURSE AND LET THE BEAST GO BACK TO WHERE IT CAME FROM AND SURVIVE READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT.
This connects to my life because I have been lost in a lot of places and Cassidy also can’t find her house so she needs someone to help her. My favorite part of this book is when the group of people go into the house and find a map and Cassidy is going to follow the map then a beast was following them around the place. I think there is no movie version of this book. This book is different from the other books in the series because this book is a mystery and not that scary because there was a zombie in the house which is interesting and when a beast followed them they were suspicious of why it is following them.
I would rate this book because this book was not too scary so I would rate this a three and a half out of five stars. I rate this book that because this book is also not that mysterious and I love scary and mystery books and this book has both scary and mysteries. If you bought the book I hope you enjoyed it.

Student Book Review - "Percy Jackson"

Percy Jackson
By: Rick Riordan
I liked this book because this book is mainly about Ancient Greek, and Ancient Civilizations, which is my favourite topic. This book is about a kid named Percy Jackson who has dyslexia and ADHD. Percy gets attack on a school trip by monsters. His teacher and, friend later deny that there is such a thing as monsters, because his friend hesitated when he asked. Later in that day, Percy went to his room to study for his test, and then he went to ask for help from his teacher, but he heard his friend and teacher talk about the monster incident. Then he asked his friend why he lied and, he said “The less you knew, the fewer monsters you attract”. Percy then leaves his friend and goes to his room to pack up because he got expelled from the academy. When he reaches his house, his friend followed him and told him monsters were coming and, then his mom sends him to a special camp for people like him. He later found out that he was a son of Poseidon. My favourite part is when everyone found out that he was a son of because everyone knelt down to him. The book and movie are pretty much the same except the movie changed some stuff. The other books are still about fighting monsters. I gave this book a rating of 5/5 because Ancient Civilizations was my favourite topic.

student book review - DORK DIARIES

Student Book Review Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-So-Popular Party Girl by Rachel Renee Russell

Have you ever had an enemy that is always behind you? Well that’s exactly what happened to Nikki Maxwell in this novel.
https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR5wOICAhMgnCi_uKmOu5ma1am8OtYXxyiDHb5_ufXkQYX1MARe “Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-So-Popular Party Girl” was a very interesting book that caught my eye and I loved it. This story started when Nikki Maxwell was hoping her crush Brandon Robert, will ask her to the Halloween dance. But she was heartbroken when she overheard her biggest enemy, Mackenzie Hollister, bragging that she and Brandon are going to the dance together. But Nikki was shocked when Brandon asked her to the dance and realized that Mackenzie was lying. Nikki agreed to go with him and ended up having the best time of her life.
This story was very interesting. My favourite part of the story was when Brandon asked Nikki out and she found out Mackenzie was lying. If I was Nikki I would never think that Mackenzie was telling the truth. This is my favourite book from the series because this one was the one I thought flowed more smoothly than the others.
I would rate this book 5 star out of 5. What made this book so great was how the story was well written, and the story was very enjoyable to read and very interesting.

Student Book Review - "The Sister's Club"

http://www.meganmcdonald.net/files/bookimages/24255909.jpgStinks being the middle child? Right? Well that’s exactly how Stevie Reel feels like in this fabulous novel. Stevie Reel senses as if she is the glue holding the family together. Especially since “Boss Queen Alex” has gotten way too wrapped up in her school play and her leading man, it’s like there’s no more time for, well basically anything.
In the extraordinary story “The Sisters Club” we meet the protagonist Stevie Reel who feels similar to the glue holding the family together.  The family is excessively tied up in other things like acting and cooking, that there is no more time for the sisters club or even family dinners. There’s been much more drama and way too much arguing between the sisters and it all started ever since the “Boss Queen Alex” had gotten too caught up in her acting life and love live. Will the three sisters make up? Or will there be no more sisters club?
One of my favorite parts in this book was when Stevie the protagonist “borrows” her sister’s lucky sweater and once she pulls a thread on the sweater, the sweater comes apart. This was my favorite part because it had created some suspense at the moment and it strengthened the conflict some more. This was shown in the story when Stevie had ripped her older sister’s sweater, this had showed suspense because the reader did not know what she was going to do next. At this moment the book was also a great page turner.
Overall I would rate this enjoyable book 4 out of 5 because although it was a great suspenseful book, I would ask for a little bit more detail because I believe that it did not have as much of detail in the whole book itself and the conflict. Despite the fact that this book was lacking in detail, it was a great page turner and I would really recommend this book for anyone looking for some bumps along the way of the story.

Student Book Review - "One Piece"

One Piece
by: Eiichiro Oda
https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ0MMvUMkh9YmBOvzjBBHPfE_m-VOSPp2SGg6jtH-6VbHgkNqq7bQ
Has your friend ever done something behind your back and thought it would make you happy? Well that's what happens in this book. In this amazing book, a 17 year old boy named Luffy D. Monkey sets sail to become a pirate with a crew of 6 of his friends. Robin, one of his friends secretly sacrifices herself to the Navy. When Luffy and his other friends find out Robin sacrificed her life to ensure the safety of her friends they don't accept it. While Robin is chained up and waiting for the escort ship to come and take her to prison, she remembers all the good times she had with her friends and she realizes she wants to go back. When her friend find out they have to fight against the navy's cp.9 group of assassins to get her back. Now the final question is will they be able to get her back before she is taken to prison and will they make it out alive?
My favorite part of this book is when Luffy gets into a fight with one of the assassins named Bleuno. I can relate to Luffy because many times people do stuff for me behind my back that I don't like. To me this book is not the most   interesting in the series because some others have more interesting and important events. I would rate this book four out of five since this book is interesting because it has a lot of suspense. This book is also humorous and adventurous and it has everything I am looking for. I took off one star because some of the other books in this series are more interesting.

Student Book Review - Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The book is called The Hunger Games. The author of the book is Suzanne Collins. I personally love this novel. Five, no three pages into the book and I was hooked. I read it about 6 times. I also love this book because it is filled with violence and drama. So let me tell you more about the book.

The nation of Panem, a shining capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

My favorite part of the book was when Katniss and Peeta needed to kill each other even though they are on the same team, because there could be only one winner so they almost committed suicide, so the Gamemakers let them live.

The movie version is a bit different than the novel because it doesn't have many things the novel has, for example, in the book Katniss had to go to a feast but in the movie they didn't show it. This is the first book to The Hunger Games trilogy and all of the books were amazing but this book is the one that really gets my attention.

Katniss Everdeen reminds me of myself because like Katniss I have many talents but I am shy to show anyone, unless it is mandatory.

I rated this novel a solid 5 out of 5. It may sound like I am exaggerating, but I am not. The story is a violent, jarring, speed rap of a novel, that has constant suspense. I rated this novel a solid 5 because it was brilliantly plotted and perfectly paced.

Student Book Review: Clementine by Sara Pennypacker

Have you ever had a week that went terribly wrong? Well, this book for sure will relate to you my friend. I love this book so much because it is very humorous as well as heart-warming. This book is written by Sara Pennypacker.

This is about a girl named Clementine, who is a not-so-common third grader, and who is constantly being told that she needs to pay attention in class. On the contrary, she pays attentions to shrewd things, like looking for ceiling snakes. In this book, Clementine gets in trouble for cutting off her best friend’s hair. From this problem onwards, she has to face other problems along the week, like Clementine loosing her best friend, or she thinking that her parents are giving her away. These are some of the problems that she faces; although there are many more problems that can be counted. Also, she is not understood by her teachers in school.

Clementine reminds me of myself because Clementine yells at the principal and I yell at my brother many times. Also I like scaring off birds and Clementine helps her dad scare off the pigeons. There is no movie based on this book and, I have not read the other Clementine books in the series. My favorite part in the book is when Clementine makes a hat for her best friend Margaret which shows how powerful friendship is.

My rating for this book is 5 stars out of 5 (*****out of *****). I gave this rating because it has a wonderful story, with twists and turns. Also this book is has suspense and it has heart-warming moments.

Student Book Review - "Creepover, You Can't Come in Here" by P.J. Night

The book that I will talk to you about is called Creepover - You Can't Come in Here, and let me tell you it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Creepover is a book that I love because it’s...well….creepy! It’s about a girl named Emily Hunter who loves hanging out with her new neighbours, from their killer rec rooms to their great guitar skills. Drew and Vicky, aka her neighbours, are very cool. The only bummer is that they’re home-schooled and Emily’s other friends haven’t gotten to meet them yet. So Emily comes up with a plan to have a party and a sleepover. But, as Emily gets ready for the big party she begins to wonder about Drew and Vicky. They won’t let Emily go to a certain room of their house, and a wolf howls on their lawn every night, Is this only Emily’s overactive imagination or are the neighbours more than just a little strange???
Personal Connections:
My favourite part of the book is when Emily is watching a movie and when her dad keeps interrupting and she and her dad have a little cat fight (INSANE)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sadly this book does not have a movie version☹☹☹☹☹☹
In my opinion none of the other books in the series are as good as this one because the author uses more descriptive words.
Let’s be honest once you read this book you will start to realize that Emily is just like me because she hates it when people interrupt when her favourite movie plays and that is sooooooo me and she loves playing which is just like me sometimes I’m all about playing.
NOW THE MOST IMPOTANT PART OF THIS BLOG TIME FOR ME TO RATE THE BOOK!
ONLINE DRUM ROLL PLEASE!
5 STARS *****
I gave this book 5 stars because it’s such an amazing book. It’s my type of book and you won’t even have any questions while you are reading it because the author explains it all. For example when you’re reading a book and the author says this happened and you’re like how?!?! In this book you won’t do that at all. It’s also so creepy. you will find that out if you read the book.
I hope you enjoyed this blog thank you for reading.☺

Student Book Review - "Geronimo Stilton, The Golden Statue Plot"

REVIEW: Geronimo Stilton "The Golden Statue Plot"

Macintosh HD:Users:sajithan:Desktop:9780545556293_p0_v1_s260x420.JPGThe tile of my book for my book review is Geronimo Stilton And The Golden Statue Plot. The author of my story is Elisabetta Dama. To introduce the book I think that this book was amazing because pirate cats try to steal the Golden Statue of Liberty away because they thought it was made out of real gold. This book is about rancid rat hairs; the pirate cats are coming to town. They're planning on stealing the New Mouse City's Statue Of Liberty and taking it back to Cats Island. They think it's completely made out of real gold. His friends and him are determined to protect their city's precious symbol.
My favorite part of the book is when the pirate cats try to take the Golden Statue Of Liberty. There isn't any movie version. This book was just released so it was more interesting than all the books in the series.
This book doesn't remind me of the characters in the stories but it reminds me of my little cousin because in this book there is a little boy named Benjamin that looks like my cousin.
To wrap up my book review I rate this book a four out of five because some of the story was kind of boring and when it came to the middle and the end it was really interesting.

Diary of Wimpy Kid - Student Book Review

STUDENT BOOK REVIEW
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel
By: Jeff Kinney

This book is really awesome funny and great for all audiences. It’s about a really wimpy kid named Greg that has been annoyed by everyone in his family.

When Greg was not born his parents was still making him mad by making him listen to classical music because they thought Greg will be smart when he comes out. When his mom was sleeping, she snored and Greg would get really annoyed. When he was born, he slept in a cabinet because there was no room. When he got older all he wanted to do was find true love with a girl but no one liked him and when he finally got loved it hit rock bottom with that relationship. And you will not believe what it will take to fix this problem.

Greg reminds me of me because Greg has an older brother named Rodrick that really annoys him a lot and I have a brother that annoys me a lot.

I will rate this book 5 out of 5 because the book is really funny and interesting
